Q&A: Get To Know Me!

Hey Beauties,

I posted a picture on Instagram a few days ago asking you guys to leave any questions you guys had about me, my life, etc and I promised to get back to you all in a blog post so here we are 🙂

As you can all tell by now I do not like to share personal pictures of my loved ones and too much detail about my life because people can interpret it the wrong way, some people can respond negatively, leave rude comments, etc and I am just not about that life lol. Therefore, to avoid drama at all costs I chose to keep my makeup life open to the world and my personal life, well personal. Long story short I decided to do this Q&A so you guys could get to know me a little better on a personal level since all of that is not public information

P.S. Brace yourselves because this is going to be a longggggggg post 🙂 Enjoy!

1: What do I do for a living?

This was probably the most asked question on my post and I get this question ALL THE TIME!
Okay so let me start from the beginning just because I really want you guys to understand my journey through my eyes 🙂
I began my Instagram and blog about three years ago when I had just got accepted to attend UCLA as an undergraduate. I was really getting into makeup and learning a lot along the way so I decided  to blog about all my knowledge and opinions. Although this was mainly a fun hobby for me I am one of those people who put either all or nothing into something so my goal from the beginning was to make my page a huge success. I figured out all the ropes to the Instagram world, through personal research, I kept track of my stats to see how well I was doing and I also kept an eye out for what posts were more interesting to my audience. It wasn’t until my big break when Vegas_Nay posted my picture that I boomed overnight (literally). Since then I have had a lot of success with my Instagram and blog. I knew from my continued success that I can definitely do something with this I just didn’t know what exactly. Thus, once I graduated with my bachelors I wanted to take a year off and explore my options. I realized that no makeup company wanted to hire me to work behind the scenes (creating products, marketing products, etc) because I had no experience so I decided to go back to school. I applied and got accepted to FIDM for their Beauty Marketing and Merchandising program and was set to start school in June. However, between the time I got accepted and now I was fortunate enough to meet an individual whom I started a business with. Just like that FIDM went out the door.

I believe wholeheartedly that the concept my partner and I have is very unique and we are going all out for you guys :). I announced it on my Instagram and if you guys would like more details on the concept just visit our website or email me. I love getting emails from you guys!

2: How can I afford all the makeup I buy?

This is the second most asked question on my page and although it is personal I know it’s coming out of curiosity and not from a negative place (or at least I hope it’s not coming from a negative place).

As I mentioned above I am currently working on my business, Makeup Tonight, and I am so excited that we already have events up for LA & NY (check it out 😉 Although I may not have an orthodox “job” I work on a million different things throughout the day and I have a hectic schedule just like any working individual. I have meetings, work on projects, organize events, and so much more. However, I will say that I make money off of contracts that I have with companies to advertise their products, or what not, on my page. I will also say that I do not EVER advertise companies I do not believe in. I always try a product out before I post a review; whether it is paid for or sent to me, ALWAYS! I am always honest in my reviews and that will never change, I don’t care how much a company pays.

Second, I get a lot of products sent to me. The ones I like I post about and the ones I don’t, I don’t post about them.

Third, I’m not always spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on makeup at once. I might make a pit stop to Naimies because I ran out of lash glue or I might stop by at Sephora because I want to try something out or get a sample of something. What I am trying to say is all my makeup is a collection of things I have ever purchased throughout my life. And yes, it is definitely not the average persons makeup collection but that’s because I am really into makeup. Plus, what kind of a beauty blogger would I be without a huge collection of makeup in those adorable acrylic storages lol.

3: What is your age?

I am currently 21. I will turn 22 September 8!

4: What is the one makeup product I couldn’t live without?

Super easy, my Dior Nude BB which I have blogged about numerous times (http://www.sephora.com/diorskin-nude-bb-creme-P377753). However, the one complaint I do have about this product is that it has very little color variation so I have to mix two colors (so not practical I know) but it really is an amazing product. I mix shade 01 & 02. You can also mix it in with a lighter or darker foundation to get more coverage but there’s no point, you might as well just get a foundation with your coverage of choice.

5: Best mascara ever?

I always switch it up but my top favorites are:

-Benefit -RollerLash

-Maybelline- Lash Discovery

-Jordana- Best Lash Extreme

6: What are my favorite TV Shows & favorite characters?

Okay so don’t judge me but I am all about “Love & Hip-Hop” I mean I swear by this show and my Mondays are not complete without it. I love all of them (NY, Atlanta, LA). I pretty much like all the characters except when they do shady things (like the fact that Peter is in love with 2 women STILL, or when the spouses cheat, etc). Oh and I actually saw Nikki at Bloomingdales last week with her mom and she didn’t have an ounce of makeup one and she is seriously gorgeous you guys. I don’t even care that she’s had plastic surgery done because she has a banging body and porcelain skin!

My second favorite show is Empire. UGHH I need it back in my life!!!!!! I love Cookie, duh lol!

I also love Shark Tank, this show is my crack! I love to hear the constructive criticism from the sharks and I keep those tips and mistakes in mind because I just might need it one day.

Chrisley Know’s Best is another one I love. Todd makes my life complete, he is hilarious!

Keeping Up With The Kardashions, Total Diva’s, Rich Kids Of Beverly Hills, Shah’s of Sunset, and are also my faves 🙂

You might also be surprised to know that I absolutely love to cook so Food Network is pretty much all I watch in the mornings (aside from re-runs of Sex & The City). I love Chopped, Pioneer Woman, Barefoot Contessa, and Giada At Home. I don’t necessarily write down the recipes because I’m pretty good at eye-balling my ingredients (and even making up my own) but I watch it for the tips, tricks, and secret ingredients. I must admit I make a killer guacamole and since I love you all so much I am going to share my own secret ingredient. Are you ready for it???? It’s Balsamic Vinegar! Yes, I know super random but it’s just amazing and really gives your guac some depth and flavor.

Okay so I chop onions, tomatoes, and avocados in my handy dandy “Onion Chopper,” which saves my life and cuts perfectly (http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/prepworks-reg-onion-chopper/1013653801). I only hate that it doesn’t cut through thick pieces and washing it can be a b*** because sometimes the ingredients get stuck in between the little spaces. Anyways, once I have my main ingredients in my bowl I spice it with salt, garlic powder, and aleppo pepper. Then I go in with some lemon, olive oil,  and balsamic vinegar. I mix it all then taste to see what’s missing! I also save the avocado pit’s in the bowl to keep the avocados as fresh as possible.
If you guys try this please let me know how it turns out 🙂

7:  What is my favorite makeup brand & why?

This is a hard one because I cannot really pinpoint one favorite brand. If I had to pick a few I would pick Too Faced, Girlactik, Mac, The Balm, Morphe Brushes, and Make Up For Ever. I just love all of these because they have amazing products along with amazing quality!

8: What was my very first lipstick?

Umm, I do not remember lol. I think it was a Mac lipstick, definitely a nude! I want to say either “Honeylove” or “Myth.” Yes, I was one of those girls who would wear Myth all over her lips no lip liner and no gloss, yuck! Isn’t it funny how we look back and cringe at some of our beauty mistakes?!

9: What was your first big makeup purchase?

Again, I do not remember 😦 but I want to say maybe a Dior foundation. Dior Nude to be specific!

10: Am I married?

No, I am not married. I do however have a boyfriend whom I have been with for 3.5 years. I can easily say he is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with 😍 hint hint 😉

11: Why don’t I have YouTube?

Well, YouTube is a huge commitment in my opinion and as I mentioned before when I do something I like to put my all into it and I don’t feel like I can do that at the moment. I’ve also never had the urge or passion to do YouTube so thats probably another reason why I don’t have one.

12: What is my favorite lipstick from MAC?

If I had to pick one it would be “Japanese Maple.”

13: What are some of my favorite drugstore lipsticks and beauty finds?

Hmm, I have a lot!

Here are my top favorites:

-Wet N Wild lipsticks & eyeshadows (I have one trio that I cannot live without it’s called “Walking On Eggshells”)

-NYX Butter Gloss (I die for “Eclair”), blushes, HD concealer, ultra pearl mania pigments, matte lipsticks, and soft lip creams.

-Jordana Cosmetics Best Lash Extreme Mascara (the other ones are not the best in my opinion) & their lip liners

-Rimmel, Loreal, and Maybelline lipsticks are all amazing

-NYC liquid liner (omg freaking awesome) & their translucent setting powder is great (perfect for under the eyes & it is definitely flash approved)

To be honest all drugstore lipsticks have just as good quality as high-end, it’s just a matter of color selection!

14: What is my favorite moisturizer?

I currently use the Kiehls Rosa Arctica Lightweight cream and this is my second tub (http://www.kiehls.com/Rosa-Arctica/785,default,pd.html). I really love it!

Oh and recently I purchased the Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk Hydrating treatment (http://www.sephora.com/pure-argan-milk-tm-intensive-hydrating-treatment-P384780) and I apply it every night. So far I absolutely love it and this is how I hydrate my skin overnight. Then in the mornings I’ll use my Kiehls.

Another great moisturizer I use underneath my makeup (if my skin is really dry and needs extra hydration) is the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre (http://www.sephora.com/lait-creme-concentre-P391011).
P.S. Hautelook is featuring this exact same product for 32% off (I just restocked). Use this link to signup & purchase yours today; hurry this sale ends Thursday: http://www.hautelook.com/invite/ggasparian697

15: What is my favorite foundation?

Hands down Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk! I am in shade 05, their shades are tricky so get a sample before you purchase!

16: How did I become so successful?

This question put a huge smile on my face 🙂

Although I do like to think of myself as somewhat successful I am also my toughest critic. I always strive to do better and I always set higher goals for myself. As to “how” I became successful I’d like to think hard work and passion always show through and I feel like the people who know me, meet me, or even interact with me can definitely sense those qualities in me.

17: Who is my biggest inspiration?

I have so many inspirations!!!! I get inspired by different things and it’s always changing. For the longest time my biggest  inspiration was a Manhattan penthouse with a 360 view of the city. Every time I see a picture of a penthouse with a NY view I literally imagine my life as a successful entrepreneur with million dollar companies and just an overall success. To be a failure is not an option! It’s a weird inspiration to have but it’s my #1 inspo to keep me going and work harder than I already do.

Another inspiration is successful people. YouTubers are also very inspirational to me. Sometimes I’ll focus on one blogger and go through all their videos and vlogs and the whole process of it all inspires me.

Pictures are also very inspirational to me. Tumblr & Pinterest always have the cutest pictures and most of those inspire me. I especially love seeing my lip swatches randomly come up, makes me feel proud!

18: What is my advice to anyone who wants to become a makeup artist?

Well, I wouldn’t consider myself a makeup artist per say I am more of a blogger and educator but I do take the occasional makeup appointments. My best advice is to market yourself correctly. If your work is good it will grab attention (good lighting, clear pictures, etc) but marketing yourself is very important. You shouldn’t mix too much personal with business, you shouldn’t Facetune the hell out of your work (it’s very obvious & it is my pet peeve; we all need a little blurring in some areas but there is no reason why your whole eye should be blurred), you should have many social media accounts to promote your work, and just try to put the best material out as possible ( no one is perfect but learn from your mistakes & be picky with your pictures)!

If anyone who is an aspiring makeup artist or blogger needs any advice on how to get started don’t hesitate to email me 🙂

  1. Absolutely love your blog! Your reviews are honest which really helps me as I have bad skin so can see what will work for me! I have an oily t-zone and chin yet dry patches, what moisturiser, foundation etc would you recommend? Thank you and please keep doing what you’re doing, you’re fab 🙂 x

    1. Hi Jenny,

Thank you so much for your sweet words!!! I would recommend a lightweight moisturizer try the Kiehls one I mentioned above or event the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream. You should also use a gentle exfoliant 2-3 times a week. As for foundation I suggest priming your skin with a oil free primer and use mattifying foundations such as Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet. Let me know if you have any more questions 🙂

      1. Thanks so much!!! I will thank you! I love trying new make up and skin care but have to be careful with my skin so advice like yours is fantastic! X

      2. Sorry to bother you again but I can’t find anywhere in the UK to buy Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet 😦 are there any other similar formulas? I’ve trying double wear which is okay but doesn’t seem to like the dry patches! Thanks again! X

      3. Yes, the Estee Lauder Double Wear is a bit too heavy for dry patches. Again if dry patches are a problem no matter what foundation you use they will be enhanced so definitely exfoliate your face to get rid of them. As far as other foundations anything oil free should be compatible to your oily t-zone. However, it might be drying for your cheeks so make sure to moisturize with something lightweight, wait a few minutes for it to soak in, then use a primer. The best moisturizer under makeup is the Embryolisse one I mentioned above, it’s perfect for all skin types.
